    My Clean Skin Care Routine

This is my clean skin care routine that I use in my 40s. I give you tips, steps and products that I love to use. I walk you through my morning and night routines for glowing skin.

a bright pink and orange bouquet of ranunculus flowers

    Clean Skin Care Morning Routine

Cleanse: CeraVe Hydrating Oil Face Cleanser - I work this cleanser into a lather either by hand, with a cotton cloth or a silicone massager brush. I use lukewarm water to rinse the cleanser from my face.

Tone: e.l.f. Keep Your Balance Toner - I put some on a cotton ball and gently rub over my face and neck. I let dry completely before moving to the next step.

Serum: TruSkin Vitamin C Face Serum - this serum is lightweight and I've definitely seen results with it lightening age spots and scars on my face and hands. I put 4-5 drops on my hands and then smooth over my face and neck. Then I put one drop on my fingers and smooth over the back of my hands.

Moisturize: e.l.f. SKIN Suntouchable Invisible Sunscreen - I put a nickel size amount on my finger and then apply all over my face, neck and chest. Depending on how dry my skin is I may need more to get good coverage.

Eye Cream: e.l.f. Holy Hydration Eye Cream - I apply this around my eyes prior to putting makeup on if I didn't apply sunscreen around my eyes. If I'm going to be in the sun I go with sunscreen, but if I'm inside I use this cream.

    Clean Skin Care Evening Routine

Cleanse: Native Brightening Paraben Free Facial Cleanser - I use this lightly scented cleanser in the evening. If I'm out I also sometimes use the same cleanser from my morning routine. If I'm wearing makeup then I remove it first with this e.l.f. Holy Hydration Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm by rubbing the balm over my face and eye makeup then wipe it off with a damp cotton cloth.

Tone: e.l.f. Keep Your Balance Toner - I put some on a cotton ball and gently rub over my face and neck. I let dry completely before moving to the next step.

Moisturize: e.l.f. Holy Hydration Fragrance Free Face Cream - I apply this to my face, neck and chest at night. If my skin is feeling dry I will put e.l.f. Youth Boosting Blue-ty Sleep Night Oil over the face cream.

A Couple of Times Per Week

Morning: Pacifica Kale Charcoal Ultimate Detox Mask - once a week I apply this mask to my face. If I'm short on time I will just apply to any acne spots I have and let dry before I complete my morning face cleansing routine.

    More Serums I Like

I love to try a new serum! I've listed what I'm using right now above, but there are several serums I rotate through that I enjoy using. Here are my favorite serums:

    • e.l.f. Triple Bounce Serum
    • BYOMA Brightening Serum

gluten free brownie bites on a white plate and a white cake stand with homemade whipped cream on top and fresh strawberries

My favorite part of the brownie is the crispy and crunchy outside edges. Making brownies in a muffin tin means each one has a crispy outer edge with a fudge inside. These gluten free brownie bites are delicious on their own or served with homemade whipped cream or ice cream.

    Ingredients

    • Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
    • Unsalted Butter
    • Gluten Free Flour
    • Cocoa Powder
    • Baking Powder
    • Sea Salt
    • Vanilla Extract
    • Eggs
    • Granulated Sugar
    • Brown Sugar

    Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line muffin tins for 18 brownie bites with cupcake liners or grease with coconut oil.

In a microwave safe bowl heat the chocolate chips and butter until they are melted. Heat in 30 second intervals and stir in between.

In a separate mixing bowl sift together the gluten free flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and sea salt. Set aside.

In the bowl of your stand mixer beat together the eggs, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla until they are well combined and thicken. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Add the melted chocolate mixture and beat just to combine.

Add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

Pour your batter into your lined or greased muffin tins. This recipe makes 18 brownie bites.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are crisp and browned.

The brownies will deflate in the center as they cool. Let them cool completely before storing them to an airtight container.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long do gluten free brownie bites last?

Once your brownies are cool you will want to store them in an air tight container. They will keep for 3-5 days. If they are going to last longer than that I like to freeze part of them for later.

To freeze, place them in a freezer safe container or bag. Freeze in a flat layer so you can get one at a time out if you would like. This makes a quick dessert or treat to have on hand!

    Top Tip

These little chocolate desserts are perfect to make ahead before a gathering. I like to set them out on a cookie sheet or leave them in the muffin tins so I can fill the centers with whipped cream and then store them in the refrigerator until it's time to serve them. They can be served with a fork and plate or just like a cupcake still in the wrapper.

I love these white Birkenstocks. It makes my 90s teen heart so happy that they are back in style.

I like linen shirts for summer. They are perfect for dressing up a pair of shorts or wearing over a swimsuit. This boyfriend style linen shirt in a neutral color is really pretty.

I love to carry a tote bag (especially during the summer). I can always have a book, my essential oils and a snack on hand with all the space in a tote bag. This pretty denim and leather version is perfect!

I'm loving that white denim shorts are all over this year. I feel like white makes a comfy classic a little more dressy. They're so easy to pull on over a swimsuit or dress up with the linen shirt above.

I love simple jewelry. These simple gold bar earrings are lovely. They would go with just about anything too.

I'm really wanting a garden bag and bench combo. Have you seen them? They have a metal frame with a canvas top and double as a bag for tools. I think it would be so much easier on my knees than kneeling beside my garden beds.

I've also been eyeing this Japanese Weeder. We always get weeds that as long as I pull don't come back, but initially I always have a lot of weeding in the garden each year.

    Top Tip

I cook my bacon the day before in the oven at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Then, I flip it and cook 8-10 minutes more until it's done. I move the bacon from the baking sheet to a plate with a paper towel to soak up excess grease. Finally, let the bacon cool completely before chopping into hardy chunks for this recipe.

With the bacon already cooked it makes this recipe really fast to put together for a weeknight meal or weekend breakfast or brunch. To speed up that process you could put the tater tots in an even layer in your baking dish, top with cheese and bacon. Then store in the refrigerator overnight.

If you choose to put part of the casserole together the night before you will need to cook this dish for less time when the tater tots are thawed. I would reduce the cook time by 10-12 minutes and then check to see if the eggs are done. The eggs will be browned on top slightly and the dish should be bubbling around the edges a little.

    J.Crew Spring Items I'm Loving

I'm loving the colors and clothes this Spring. I'm trying to get items ordered now for warmer days before my size sells out. I waited too long last year and had a hard time finding shorts in my size that I liked. So many cute options this year!

    Stuff I Love

New Hand Cream I'm Loving - This Beloved Cactus Flower and Basil hand cream is a little 1 ounce tube that's perfect for my purse or on my desk next to my computer. My hands have been so dry and this soaks right in!

Book I Want to Read - I've been using my Kindle a lot this last year since our library has been closed most of the time. I really want to read When The Stars Go Dark by Paula McLain. I really liked her book The Paris Wife and am looking forward to another book by her.

Want to Try - I'm always looking for things to add to my water to help me drink more. I'm just not great at getting enough water in each day. I want to dry this new Elemental Electrolyte Drink Mix in Mango Chili.

New Snack I Love - Yum Earth is one of my favorite brands for candy. They have new Sour Giggles (like sour Skittles without food dyes) and Black Licorice! I haven't had black licorice in years and I love a sour candy.

Drink I'm Loving - My husband told me he was mixing the Trace Minerals Electrolyte PowerPak in Lemon Lime with hot water and drinking them for his sore throat and allergy symptoms. Genius! It's like hot lemon water, but with added vitamins and minerals.

    Favorites From Around The Web

I really want a lazy susan for my kitchen counter. I'm loving the look of this Jillian Lazy Susan from Ballard Designs.

I really hope to have friends and family over for meals outdoors this summer. This Rosa Melamine Dinnerware is so pretty! It looks like lovely china plates. I love having sturdy dinnerware to reuse outside that I can put in my dishwasher.

I'm sure I'm the last person to the party on this, but I've never tried Partake Foods gluten free cookies. I want to order the Soft Baked Variety Pack so we can try all the flavors.

I love capri jeans with sandals for summer. These Levi's Wedgie Straight Cropped Jeans look super cute even though they have a very unfortunate name.

The 90's teen in me is a huge fan of clogs! Anyone else have amazing wood and suede clogs in the 90's? These Nellie Cognac Suede Leather Platform Sandals are so cute! I might need them.

I'm looking forward to watching The Nevers on HBO this Saturday. The trailer looks so good!
