    Gluten Free Pizza Crust

This easy recipe for gluten free pizza crust is a staple recipe for Friday night pizza. The recipe uses yeast and is a basic pizza crust that you can top with anything. I like to go classic with lots of meats and veggies, but you would also make a dessert pizza with cinnamon and sugar.

a gluten free pizza crust topped with sauce, cheese, mushrooms, black olives, basil and turkey chorizo on top

My gluten free pizza crust recipe is a simple and versatile solution for creating a delicious pizza base at home, perfect for those with gluten sensitivities or anyone following a gluten free lifestyle.

This easy to follow recipe ensures that you can enjoy a homemade pizza from scratch, with the flexibility to adapt for additional dietary preferences like egg free, dairy-free, or vegan options.

Whether you're making pizza for kids or preparing a quick weeknight dinner, this recipe is designed to be hassle-free while delivering great results every time.

I also have a gluten free sourdough pizza crust recipe that is delicious too.

    Ingredients

    • Gluten Free Flour
    • Sea Salt
    • Xanthan Gum
    • Granulated Sugar
    • Dry Active Yeast
    • Warm Water
    • Olive Oil

    Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

In a food processor or your stand mixer add the gluten free flour, salt, xanthan gum, sugar and yeast. Pulse or beat until ingredients are mixed together.

Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Turn the food processor or stand mixer on and process the dough until it begins to stick to the sides. This will be past the dough ball stage.

Place the dough in an oiled and sealed container in a warm spot to rise for 1-2 hours.

If the dough is sticky and hard to work with refrigerate it for 20 minutes.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface or between two sheets of parchment paper.

Bake the crust at 400 degrees for 5-7 minutes or until dough begins to crisp underneath.

Add your toppings to the crust and bake at 400 degrees for another 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the crust are browned.

Let your pizza cool slightly and then cut to serve.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use yeast in this recipe?

Yes. The dough will not rise if you don't use yeast for this recipe. You will make the dough in your food processor or mixer and then put it in a sealed container. The gluten free pizza dough will stay in the sealed container for 1-2 hours where it will rise.

What should I do if the dough is hard to work with?

If you find the dough sticky or too hard to work with, put it in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Cooling the dough should help so you can roll out your crust easily. Be sure you are using a surface lightly dusted with flour and add a bit of flour to your rolling pin also.

If neither of these options work for you I would roll the dough out between two pieces of parchment paper. Be sure to peel both sheets of parchment off the crust before baking it.

    Is yeast gluten free?

Most yeast is gluten free. I use Fleischmann's Active Dry Yeast for this recipe. This brand says on the bottle that it is gluten free. Always check ingredient lists and containers to make sure they state they are gluten free.

I use this recipe to make one thick crust pizza, however you could split this dough in half and make two thin crust pizzas. You can also divide the dough into smaller pieces and make personal pizzas. This is great for making everyone exactly what they want!

Cast iron skillets are one of my favorite cooking essentials. I love how easily they go from the stovetop to the oven with everything all in one pan. When properly seasoned they are easily cleaned up with some water a bit of scrubbing with a chain scrubber or dish brush.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use chicken in this recipe?

Yes. You could easily substitute chicken in this recipe if you would like. Cook the chicken completely and then add the onion to the pan to cook until it's translucent. Follow the instructions from there below in the recipe card. You could also omit meat completely if that's what works for you.

How do I clean and season my cast iron skillet?

I love to cook with cast iron. It evenly heats and is easy to clean. I like to use this U-picks Cast Iron Skillet Cleaner Chainmail Scrubber that I got from Amazon. I rinse the pan with hot water to remove any loose food and leftover oil. Then I use the chainmail scrubber to lift up any bits of food left.

I place the pan on the stove top at medium heat and let it dry completely. Then I pour a tablespoon of oil on the pan and rub it onto the entire inside of the pan with a paper towel. Remove the skillet from heat and it's ready for your next meal.

Remember to never put your cast iron skillet into the dishwasher.

What type of pasta should I use for this casserole?

I'm a big fan of gluten free brown rice pasta. I like how well it holds up to being baked and doesn't get soggy. I also think brown rice pasta has a nice texture and is the closest thing I've found to regular wheat pasta.

Some of my favorite brown rice pasta brands are: Jovial, Tinkyada, Trader Joe's

This easy recipe for gluten free sesame noodles is made in under 30 minutes. It is a vegetarian recipe, but you could add cooked chicken for more protein. It has a creammy sauce that is made with peanut butter, sesame oil and tahini butter. I like to serve these warm noodles with lots of chopped veggies.

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 2 - 8 ounce packages Rice Noodles
    • ¼ cup Sesame Oil
    • 4 Tbsp. Coconut Aminos
    • 2 Tbsp. Rice Wine Vinegar
    • 2 Tbsp. Tahini Butter
    • 2 Tbsp. Smooth Peanut Butter
    • 1 Tbsp. Granulated Sugar
    • 2 tsp. Thai Kitchen Red Curry Paste
    • 2 tsp. Sesame Seeds, toasted
    • 1 Tbsp. Minced Garlic
    • 1 - package Scallions, thinly sliced
    • 1 - package julienned or shredded Carrots
    • 1 - package Sugar Snap Peas, chopped
    • 2 Red Bell Peppers, sliced
    • 3 Chicken Breasts, cooked and sliced (optional)

    Instructions

In a stock pot cook the rice noodles per the instructions on the package. Reserve one cup of liquid before draining the noodles and returning them to the stock pot.

If you are serving this with chicken breasts you can either cook them in the air fryer at 390 degrees for 18 minutes or fry them in a pan. Be sure to check that they are completely done and the internal temperature is at least 165 degrees.

In a saucepan add the sesame oil, coconut aminos, rice wine vinegar, tahini butter, peanut butter, sugar, red curry paste, sesame seeds and minced garlic. Whisk together on medium heat until the sauce just begins to simmer.

Add the sauce to the rice noodles and stir together. If the sauce is too thick add some of the reserved water until you are happy with the consistency.

Serve the noodles hot with sliced scallions, julienned carrots, chopped sugar snap peas, sliced red bell peppers and sliced chicken breast on top.

    Notes

Any of Lotus Foods rice noodles will work with this recipe. I prefer this brand because the noodles hold their shape really well.

I cook my bacon the day before in the oven at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Then, I flip it and cook 8-10 minutes more until it's done. I move the bacon from the baking sheet to a plate with a paper towel to soak up excess grease. Finally, let the bacon cool completely before chopping into hardy chunks for this recipe.

With the bacon already cooked it makes this recipe really fast to put together for a weeknight meal or weekend breakfast or brunch. To speed up that process you could put the tater tots in an even layer in your baking dish, top with cheese and bacon. Then store in the refrigerator overnight.

If you choose to put part of the casserole together the night before you will need to cook this dish for less time when the tater tots are thawed. I would reduce the cook time by 10-12 minutes and then check to see if the eggs are done. The eggs will be browned on top slightly and the dish should be bubbling around the edges a little.

I like to use my twelve inch cast iron pan to make this recipe. I love how even cast iron pans heat. What I didn't love about them was cleaning them until I found this chainmail scrubber. The rubber in the center saves my hands and gets my pan really clean.

After the pan is clean I place it back on the stove on medium heat until all the moisture is gone. Then very carefully I pour a bit of oil into the pan and using a paper towel coat the inside of the pan. Now, my cast iron skillet is ready to go for the next meal.

    Instructions

In a stock pot cook the gluten free brown rice pasta per the packages instructions.

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

While the pasta is cooking, melt the butter in your skillet. Cook the onion and garlic until the onion is translucent. Add the gluten free flour and whisk until it absorbs the butter and liquid in the pan.

Add the vegetable broth, milk, salt, pepper, peas and tuna to the skillet mixture. Whisk together all the ingredients. Let the sauce come to a simmer and thicken.

Add the cooked noodles to the thickened sauce.

Sprinkle the cheese and bread crumbs over the noodle and sauce mixture.

Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes. The edges of the casserole will be bubbling when it's done.

Turn your oven to High Broil to brown the bread crumbs and cheese. Watch the casserole closely as the browning will happen quickly.

Remove the casserole from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clean and season my cast iron skillet?

I love to cook with cast iron. It evenly heats and is easy to clean. I like to use this Cast Iron Skillet Cleaner Chainmail Scrubber. I rinse the pan with hot water to remove any loose food and leftover oil. Then I use the chainmail scrubber to lift up any bits of food left.

I place the pan on the stove top at medium heat and let it dry completely. Then I pour a tablespoon of oil on the pan and carefully rub it onto the entire inside of the pan with a paper towel.

    Notes

If you don't have a cast iron skillet you can make the sauce in a frying pan and then transfer the sauce and noodles to an oven safe baking dish before sprinkling with cheese and bread crumbs.
