Christmas Eve is one of my favorite nights of the year to skip a big sit down dinner and set out a table full of appetizers instead. These gluten free Christmas Eve finger foods and appetizers make it easy to graze, mingle, and enjoy the evening with family and friends.
You'll find party meatballs, hot bites, creamy dips, crunchy snacks, and a few sweet treats, all gluten free and all tested in my own kitchen. I serve these to family who aren't gluten free, and the platters always come back empty.

An appetizer spread takes so much pressure off the holiday. Many of these recipes can be made ahead or kept warm in a slow cooker, so you can spend Christmas Eve with your family instead of in the kitchen.
I've grouped everything by type so you can mix and match your menu. Below the recipes, you'll find my tips for how many appetizers to make, how to keep hot food warm, and how to keep gluten free food safe when you're feeding a mixed crowd.

How Many Appetizers Do You Need?
When appetizers are the whole meal, plan on about 10 to 12 bites per person. If you're serving appetizers before Christmas Eve dinner, 4 to 6 bites per person is plenty.
A good mix for a full appetizer dinner is two hot bites or meatballs, two dips, one crunchy snack, and one or two sweet treats. Heartier choices like meatballs, steak bites, and scotch eggs help the spread feel like a real meal.
How to Keep Hot Appetizers Warm
Slow cookers are your best friend on Christmas Eve. Meatballs and hot dips can stay on the warm setting for a couple of hours, so guests can help themselves all evening.
For oven baked appetizers like jalapeno poppers and sausage bean dip, bake them in batches. Send out a fresh tray every 30 to 45 minutes instead of setting everything out at once. Air fryer bites are best cooked right before serving so they stay crisp.
Make Ahead Christmas Eve Appetizer Plan
- 2 to 3 days before: bake cookies, brownie bites, and pecan pie bars. Make Chex mix and roasted nuts, and store them in airtight containers.
- The day before: make cold dips like caramelized onion dip, ranch, hummus, and pineapple salsa. Bake eggnog cheesecake bars so they set up overnight.
- Christmas Eve morning: start meatballs in the slow cooker, stuff the jalapeno poppers, and prep the sausage bean dip so it's ready to bake.
- Right before guests arrive: bake hot dips and poppers, and air fry steak, chicken, or pork bites in batches.
Keeping Gluten Free Food Safe at a Holiday Party
If you're hosting guests who eat gluten free alongside guests who don't, a few simple steps help keep everyone safe:
- Make your gluten free recipes first, before anything with gluten, so you aren't sharing bowls, measuring cups, or cutting boards.
- Give every dip its own serving spoon, and serve gluten free crackers and chips in separate bowls.
- Put the gluten free food at one end of the table, away from regular crackers and bread.
- Label each dish so your gluten free guests know what's safe without having to ask.
