This easy recipe for homemade blueberry lemonade with frozen blueberries is a delicious non alcoholic drink. The recipe makes a simple blueberry syrup that is mixed with lemon juice and water. It is a refreshing berry drink made with frozen fruit.

a glass of homemade blueberry lemonade with frozen blueberries in front of a glass pitcher of lemonade.

I love lemonade during the hot summer months. However, I don't like all the added ingredients and chemicals in lemonade mix. So my solution is making my own berry syrup to flavor my homemade lemonade. It's so easy!

    Ingredients

    • Frozen Blueberries
    • Granulated Sugar
    • Lemon Zest
    • Lemon Juice
    • Cold Water
    • Ice

    Instructions

In a saucepan over medium heat cook the blueberries, sugar and lemon zest until the mixture is warm and bubbling. Be sure to stir the mixture so it doesn't stick to the pan.

Pour the blueberry mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove the seeds and pulp. Let the syrup cool.

In a pitcher add the cold water, lemon juice, blueberry syrup and ice. Stir to combine.

Serve immediately in tumblers with ice.

Some tips for straining the blueberry syrup

Once the frozen blueberries, sugar and lemon zest have cooked down the mixture will need to be strained to remove seeds and pulp. I like to use a fine mesh strainer over a batter bowl.

I place the strainer over the bowl and then carefully pour the hot blueberry mixture into the strainer. Using a spoon I press gently to help separate the juice from the mixture.

After the mixture has been strained I place the warm syrup into the fridge for at least 30 minutes. After it is cooled I continue making my homemade blueberry lemonade.

    Homemade Blueberry Lemonade Supplies

    Substitutions

    • Frozen Strawberries - instead of frozen blueberries you can use strawberries
    • Frozen Mixed Berries - the berry lemonade will be a bit more purple, but it will still be delicious and is a great way to use up leftover frozen berries.
    • Lime Juice - you can easily use lime juice and/or lime zest in the place of the lemon in this recipe

    Storage

You can store this drink in the pitcher or a sealed glass container in the refrigerator for up to a week. If you know you aren't going to serve this recipe immediately you can mix everything together except for the ice. Add the ice right before serving to keep the drinks cold.

Super simple recipe! Came together very quickly, and tastes delicious! I did add about 1/4 cup more lemon juice, just to get a more lemonier taste. Will definitely make again!
