These eyelash curling tips and tricks will help your eyelashes to look extra long. I walk you through how to use an eyelash curler and give you all of my hacks. These steps will have your lashes ready for makeup!

You know when you get asked what things you would bring if you were going to be stuck on an island? An eyelash curler is definitely on my list!

An eyelash curler is an easy way to open up and brighten your eyes. Even without mascara your eyes look bigger and you look more awake. It's such a simple step in your morning routine and really makes a big difference.

    First Step

Wash your face and moisturize as you normally would. I start with Countermatch Refresh Foaming Cleanser, then use Countermarch Hydra-Gel Radiance Toner, then Counter+ All Bright C Serum, finally I moisturize with Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion.

Dry skin is more likely to get pinched in your eyelash curler. Moisturizing and giving it a few minutes to set before curling your eyelashes will help prevent pinching. I like to follow my morning cleansing routine and then fix my hair to give my moisturizers time to soak in completely.

How To Get Sky High Lashes

Open the eyelash curler all the way, while your eyes are open look down and then clamp the curler as close to the roots of your lashes as possible. Be sure not to pinch your skin!

Clamp the eyelash curler a few times for five seconds each. Then hold the curler clamped for about 10 seconds. Move to the next eye and repeat these steps. Repeat this process twice for each eye to get maximum lift and length.

    My Favorite Eyelash Curler

I know there are lots of fancy eyelash curlers on the market, but I've found that my Tweezerman Eyelash Curler is my favorite. It's simple, works well and is in expensive to replace once a year.

There are heated eyelash curlers, but I haven't found them to be any better. I found myself not getting as close to my eyelashes roots with the heated versions because I was scared I would burn myself. Overall, I just don't find them to be worth the hype.

Should I curl my eyelashes after I put on mascara?

No! You are likely to pull out and break off lashes by curling them after you apply mascara. Wash your face as you normally would, let your eyelashes dry completely for a few minutes (I fix my hair during this time) and then curl your lashes.

If you feel like they've fallen or aren't curled enough after you apply eyeshadow curl them again before applying mascara. When you apply your mascara start from the roots and shift the wand back and forth as you pull it through your eyelashes to the tips.

Do two coats like this and let it dry completely. If you want more length or volume apply a third coat after the first two coats have dried completely. My favorite mascara is L'Oreal Paris Lash Paradise Mascara. This is not necessarily a clean option, but it does score a 3 with limited data on the EWG app. I haven't found a clean option that I love yet.

    Eyelash Curler Maintenance

You need to keep your eyelash curler clean and free of bacteria. If you use makeup wipes you can wipe down your curler a couple of times a week. I like to clean my eyelash curler a couple of time a month with rubbing alcohol to keep bacteria at bay.

It's a good idea to replace your eyelash curler annually. Over time and use it will break down and won't be curling your lashes as well. It's always amazing when I get a new eyelash curler how much better it works!
